The Princess Grace Foundation
The STORK CLUB was a nightclub in Manhattan, New York City, which existed from 1929 to 1965. It was founded by Sherman Billingsley and mixed the wealthy elite of the « café society » with movie stars, showgirls and aristocrats. But you also found the political establishment such as the Kennedy and Roosevelt families. The news of Grace Kelly’s engagement to Prince Rainier III of Monaco broke while the couple were visiting the club. At the death of its founder in 1965, the club closed its doors to never be reopened and was finally demolished. During the fifties, there was another STORK CLUB in London, founded by nightclub king Al Burnett. It had also been a glamorous destination for Frank Sinatra, Peter Sellers, Lana Turner, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner…

Thursday, March 29, 2018 – 8.30 p.m.
Invitation to
Théâtre des Muses
for the play
« Une petite main qui se place »
by Sacha Guitry

A comedy by Sacha Guitry written in 1922 and
taken up again in 1941
It gathered the first prize at
Soirées Sacha Guitry 2017
Staging: Peter Bateson
Théâtre des Muses,
45 a, boulevard du Jardin Exotique, Monaco

Synopsis : Adrien, a rich man from Provence, living in Paris against his will, is bored. He decides to work again as a doctor to fill his days, what earns him to be the laughing stock of his best friend and his wife. But to practise as a physician remains only a lame excuse to develop the usual vaudeville comedy by placing those delicious, ambiguous situations so typical for its author, enhanced by an superb anthology of wordplay, puns and the voluntarily wrong use of vocabulary. But tenderness and feelings are not completely thrown overboard and all of Guitry’s famous subtlety is present to conclude with an astonishingly modern vision of the couple and its evolution. It’s perhaps because of its insolently modern character that this play was less staged than Guitry’s other masterworks, but it certainly has its place in today’s world.

The tickets are paid for by

Sabine Holz-Strautmann,
Vice-President of the CAI

The play will be followed by a
« Toast to Friendship » also by invitation of Sabine Holz-Strautmann
